The British Columbia First Nations’ Data Governance Initiative takes a phased and considerate approach to transformative change. Currently, 13 First Nation communities (six nations) are participating as Demonstration Sites to pilot and participate in the Initiative.
The First Nations Demonstration Sites will deploy a suite of locally developed First Nations program administration and data collection systems (Best Practices, Mustimuhw, Unification) across their Nations and provide advice to the Coordination Team on the development of data and information management standards and in the design of relevant community reports.
The Demonstration Sites represent a cross section of varying capacity and geography across the five health regions and are as follows:
- Cowichan Tribes
- Gitksan Nation
- Ktunaxa Nation (host - Champion)
- Seabird Island Band
- Heiltsuk Nation
- Penticton Indian Band
A variety of projects are developed annually, building upon each other to test the various knowledge, systems, tools, and approaches to support data governance within all First Nations in British Columbia. The following document outlines the current 2014-15 projects.
